We are in the running for a Small Business Championship prize. What would we do with $25,000? The biggest missing link is a truck with a knuckleboom crane with a grapple saw at the end. We have a truck body. We have a knuckleboom. They have to be married together and the grapple saw purchased and added. I’ve seen the Mecanil grapple saw used for just over $25,000 . With the truck fully assembled, we will be able to pull a trailer (a larger gooseneck would be nice), pick up trees others have put in piles or pushed over, cut into managable chunks/take off root ball safely and efficiently and load it. On some standing trees that need removed due to dying or otherwise a hazard could be removed using our Trees2Products grapple unit.  Of course it will also assist in loading logs onto the sawmill and with grapple changed to forks, moving stacks of lumber products around for drying until the ancient skid steer is resurrected.

If we get the Sam’s Club gift card we’ll get some marketing supplies,  safety equipment like leather gloves, and power tools as needed. The SCORE Mentor will be invaluable in teaching us betterbusiness organization and marketing.

Read on …..why it’s more important than ever to get the grapple unit up and running….

Please don’t panic hearing the Emerald Ash Borer is in Nebraska. It’s not close to Fillmore County yet, and once it is found it won’t kill your ash trees overnight. There will be 3-8 years before we have mortality.

In a June 30 informational meeting at the Extension Office, Nicole Stoner Gage County – Horticulture Extension Educator, presented this information and more. A good plan is to plant another tree now that will provide the benefits of your ash tree before it has to come out.

Even when an ash, or any other tree, has to be removed, it does not need to be destroyed. All trees can provide many benefits as standing, living trees, and when they are no longer living they can be made into any number of useable items. Benches, picnic tables, wine racks, book cases… Dream something up and we’ll turn the log into the dream.**

Give me a call, I can look at it/them and let you know how much wood is likely available. I don’t have the equipment yet, but am working on it.

**provided there’s enough wood in the log for the dream. Multiple trees from your yard or in combination with other rescued trees could be used.
